We build strategies designed to work with your specific students and align best practices with yours
ANet coaches are steeped in the most effective models and approaches in education but we’re not rigid about them. We’re here to support what you already do well and improve what you want to do better.
In part three of this blog, coaches share how we help states with state-specific standards. Our four-part series includes:
- Part 1: Coaches on Coaching: What's The Role of a Coach?
- Part 2: Coaches on Coaching: How Coaches Enhance Data
- Part 3: Coaches on Coaching: Boosting Curriculum and State Standards
- Part 4: Coaches on Coaching: How Can A Coach Help Me?
We work with many states that have state-specific standards. How do you work with a state where you are learning these standards?
You do a lot of learning on your own! Seeking out examples from curricula you trust to build understanding of what the standards look like at different grade levels and how that is similar or different to other states you’re more familiar with. Oftentimes, leaders and teachers also have areas they want to grow their own knowledge and it can be a fun exercise to be learners alongside each other to build our understanding and teach each other.

Spend time in the state summatives and standards. When working with districts or school leaders, ask them what their “go to” resources are. Ask for logins if the state provides school-specific site access. Bring these resources into coaching as much as possible and deeply internalize prior to coaching interactions.
